System Requirements

Networks supported include Microsoft Windows for Workgroups, Windows 95, Windows NT and Advanced server, Microsoft LAN Manager, LANtastic, and other Windows compatible networks, including Novell Netware


Overall System ... Microfirm's products are all Windows based and run on Microsoft Windows, Windows for Workgroups, Windows 95, or Windows NT. Our products include Time & Billing, Case Management, and Calendaring in a single integrated product. LawPartner Sr. was developed for medium to larger law firms who are networked and share data between users. LawPartner Jr. was developed for smaller law firms which do not require networking.


Time & Billing...

Easy to use ... Time and billing system which is easy and intuitive enough for attorneys and staff with minimum computer experience and sophisticated enough to run a large firm. The time and billing system tracks billable time, billable expenses, contingency fees, accounts receivable, and attorney productivity.

Three Levels of Security ... Three levels of password protection are available and set by the system administrator. Optional password protection may be used at three separate levels to allow access to specific areas of the software and data access to different groups of individuals within your law firm.

Quick picks ... Customizable quick pick responses and drop down professional service descriptions significantly reduce the time required to enter narrative descriptions of the services you perform. Quick picks also allow task code references and standard time references per activity.

Spell Checker ... 120,000 word spell checker. Shows the entire paragraph where misspelled words are located and makes suggestions for replacement of misspelled words. Allows up to 20,000 legal words to be learned and added to the custom spelling dictionary.

Pre-bill Review ... On-screen review allows easy review and editing of bills prior to sending them to your clients. Additional features allow you to set a cut-off date and disallow individuals without proper authority to backdate billing entries after a billing cycle has ended.

Billing Reports... The invoice and statement of account reports that are sent to your clients are a very important part of the business of a law firm. The format and professional appearance of these reports represent your law firm and describe the services and level of professionalism that was provided by your firm during a billing cycle. LawPartner Jr. and Sr.offer numerous invoice and statement of account formats to choose from. You have the option of using our preformatted headings or your existing letterhead. Some formats include the acting attorneys name or initials under the description of the professional services provided. Other formats include all detailed information or just a summary depending upon your preference. The customizable quick pick option and dropdown list option promote lengthy service description narratives with just the click of a button and provides your clients with more information about the service your firm provided.

Printing Options... Most reports have three options for printing to aid in your productivity. You may print the reports one at a time, preview the reports with the option to print after reviewing it, or use the automatic batch printing of invoices and statement of account reports.

Graphically Oriented Screens... The entire software program is very graphically oriented and user friendly. Each major screen has a graphical picture associated with it and all major functions are just one click away from the main screen. For example, the time slips entry screen has the graphic representation of a watch on it; the expense entry screen has the double dollar signs on it; the payment entry screen has a picture of a two dollar bill on it, etc... When entering a date, you have the option to double click in the date field and a pop-up graphical calendar will appear. By clicking on the date within the graphical calendar that date is automatically entered into the proper area. Other pop-ups include calculators, minute to decimal conversion calculators, drop-downs, search boxes, and quick pick options.

Accounts Receivable Listings... LawPartner Jr. and LawPartner Sr. include account receivable listings for clients who are 30, 60, 90, and greater than 90 days delinquent on payments to your firm. Other reports include a past due notice with three levels of form letters which automatically update to include the client's name address, case number, and past due amounts


Case Management ...

Conflict of Interest Checking... Our powerful conflict of interest feature uses the information that you enter as part of the client set-up for the time & billing section. The conflict of interest feature checks for all name or number matches for review of a potential conflict. This conflict of interest checker not only checks for matches of your previous clients, but also includes all associated people that you entered in the note description section of each individual case. We also include a separate conflict checker that includes insured persons for aiding insurance defense and personal injury specialty firms. Computerized conflict of interest checking is very fast and very accurate. The days of trying to remember past clients, sending an army of paralegals to review your old closed files, or passing around a routing sheet to each attorney at the firm are gone and now automated!

Account Inactivity Review... The system checks all active cases and reviews them for inactivity based on the days you specify. With this review, active cases and clients are not forgotten and you have an opportunity perform activity on each active case during each billing cycle so your clients won't think you have forgotten about them and wonder about the status of their case. You can perform the on-screen review or print out a report with a listing of all active cases with no current activity.

Statue of Limitations... Statue of limitations on each case may be tracked and reported on to ensure that your legal options have not expired. The report lists all cases with associated statutes in order of first to last expiration.

Contact Information Manager... Our contact information manager tracks names, addresses, phone numbers, and information profiles. One very powerful feature of the contact information manager is the ability to keep complete narrative profiles on individuals, opposing counsel, judges, companies, expert witnesses, etc... Information can be located by searching names, numbers, codes, key words, or other information to locate the information group. For example, if you are trying to locate an expert witness that you used several years ago, just search on the word "expert witness" and each person that you entered with the word "expert witness" in the information profile will be listed for your review. When the system is networked, all attorneys on the network share the same information.

Workflow & Deadline Manager... Our workflow and deadline manager allow you to assign and track workflows and deadlines by case as well as incomplete activities and deadlines. This works especially well when you have high case loads and repetitive tasks. In medium and larger firms it works very well to have one individual responsible for following up on all approaching deadlines with the responsible attorney or paralegal.

Interoffice e-mail... LawPartner Sr. includes a network interoffice e-mail system which helps individuals to communicate with each other. Interoffice e-mail includes spell checking and the ability to keep or delete old mail.

Case Information Review... Information concerning the case may be reviewed from the read-only screen or updated from the "Add Case Information & Search" screen under a separate level of password protection. This area contains case name, case number, client, address, negotiated hourly rates, notes about the case, phone number, start date, attorneys associated with the case, court information, insured persons names, and the status of the case.


Calendaring ...

Familiar "Day Timer®" Look... Easy to use calendaring system that has the familiar "Day Timer®" look and feel for ease of use. All functions are performed from one graphical screen.

Individual Appointment Calendar.. Individual calendars are kept by attorney or staff member and daily calendars may be printed. All printed calendars are date and time stamped to ensure that you know how current the report is. When networked, each attorney may quickly review other colleagues calendars to aid in overall office efficiency. The system also allows you to maintain calendars for conference rooms, court dockets, and several other uses.

Master Calendaring... LawPartner Jr. & Sr. will automatically create a master calendar by sharing data from the individual appointment calendars to form one master calendar. Don't forget to talk to your firm's malpractice insurance carrier for a discount on your insurance for using this feature.

Work Group Master Calendaring... Master Calendaring may also be done by work group. Simply create work groups by assigning the same work group ID number to each member of the team. When work groups change, simply change the work group ID number to reassign work groups.

Schedule Conflict Checking... Individual appointment schedules are checked every time an entry is made to ensure that appointment conflicts do not occur.

Action Item List ... Each individual attorney may keep a list of action items and prioritize them. This list may be viewed on-screen or printed with a date time stamp.
